KINGSTON & ST. ANDREW
Kingston and St Andrew is located on the South-east side of the Island. It was founded in 1692 and became the capital
city of Jamaica. It is the largest city in the English speaking Caribbean. It boost an international airport, and is the centre
of the islands economic and financial seat. All government headquarters as well as head of all financial institutions
are located here.
MONTEGO BAY
Montego Bay is located on the North Coast is the second largest city in Jamaica. the word 'Montego' came from
the Spanish word Manteca which means lard. The Spaniards used to kill hogs in the mountains and ship the lard
from the port, hence the name. The first hotel was build in Montego Bay in 1924. the areas has four championship
gulf course, cruise ship pier, an international airport, several shopping centres and other facilities. A new cruise
shipping pier was build in Falmouth, 30 minutes from Montego Bay, two years ago in partnership with Royal
Caribbean Shipping company.
OCHO RIOS/RUNAWAY BAY/DISCOVERY BAY
Ocho is in the middle of the island's long north coast. Like Montego Bay, Ocho Rios boasts a wide range of visitor accommodations and modern cruise ship facilities. It is noted for its spectacular waterfall, dolphin cove,
plantation tours, adventure tour and beautiful gardens.
NEGRIL
Negril is at the western tip of the island and extends from Bloody Bay in Hanover to Negril lighthouse in Westmoreland.
It includes seven miles of white sand beach. It has a carefree ambiance and a wide range of accommodation. By law
no building can be taller than the highest palm tree. The northern end of the beach has been used in filming Walt
Disney's Twenty Thousand leagues under the sea.
PORT ANTONIO
Port Antonio is located on Jamaica's eastern coast and has preserved its charm as a sleepy fishing village while still
offering the comfort and variety of a vacation hideaway. Portland earns its early prosperity to the banana trade with
the USA and England which officially began in 1870. Tourism developed rapidly in Portland and the area of Titchfield
was named after the governor, Lord Portland. Fishing tournaments are held at the fishing marina and historical tours
are done regularly.
SOUTH COAST
The South Coast with its rolling hills, quant towns and unspoilt beaches is being developed as a new resort area. It includes areas such as Mandeville, Black River and Treasure Beach. Mandeville is more like an old English town while Black River was once a busy seaport and is located at the mouth of the longest river in Jamaica.
